Painting Progression

Here is a photo of miniatures of progression from beginning to most recent finished Blood Angels. From the previous post I spoke about how Jawaballs How-To videos helped me improve my technique, well I thought I would show you the improvement.

You can see that the far left miniature is just a bare bones basic coat with no real detail. He is apart of my first blood angels tactical squad I ever painted. The second is with an assault squad I painted immediately after the frist tactical squad. My skills improved a little but not that much.

The real first notice of detail is in the 3rd miniature. I started to watch Jawaballs videos and began using washes "GW washes :(". The 4th miniature was also an improvement as I became more experienced with painting the finer details of space marines (which we all know can be a complete hell).

Lord Dante was the first test of my skills. I was determined to have him be the best looking model on the table. Even against other players. I spent hours working on him and began to understand layering and shading that much more. How to get the exact color you want with you miniature and the proper use of shading.

My Sanguinary guard model was the first mass production use of my Lord Dante techniques. I used the same process that jawaballs teaches with dante for my sanguinary guard. I got faster and better. I still feel Lord Dante is my best painted miniature but this is a time improvement.

Lastly, is the awesome thunder hammer death company blood angel. He was an idea for a small conversion I saw on pintrest (yea was a google search for conversion ideas). I hit the finer details and not having to do layering and was very quick at it by this point. He is by far one of the coolest models I have. When I play people they are complementarity about this one marine, as he is unquie and finely painted.

I hope you see what practice and determination can do for even the most novice of painters. I will post a miniature showcase with my Power Weapon Death Company Squad tomorrow. So stay tuned and you can comment on how things look and possibly give ideas to improve.

Death Company

Hey all! It has been a little bit since I posted on here. Was pretty busy with finals week. Here is my Blood Angels Death Company Unit. I have 5 more that I have finished but don't have pictures yet. I will have those up later this week. I Like to use a rhino to transport my Death Company. It helps protect them from un-relenting plasma, metla, and any other dangerous weaponry on the battlefield. I always but a chaplain/reclusiarch with them. The chappy helps by giving them re-roll to hit and re-roll to wound (DEADLY). I took an o.k. amount of time of these miniatures. They were too hard. I just spray-painted them base black and did the detail. Once all the detail was finished, I used badab black as my wash to give them a more weathered look. again, over-using badab black I am sure. Leave me some comments on what you think of the miniatures. Critiques are always welcome! Thanks Guys!

Character Focus: Lord Dante

History:
In the closing days of the 41st Millennium, heroes like Dante are points of light in the growing darkness. He stands, as he has done for a millennium or more, between the enemies of Mankind and the Imperium.

As a leader, Dante is utterly fearless, and full of drive and initiative. If his opponents ever make a mistake, Dante is on it in a flash, and he always exploits their error to the fullest. He has a reputation for leading from the front and can usually be found where the battle is fiercest. Plummeting from the skies at the head of his personal bodyguard, a halo of power playing around his head.

War Gear:
Artificer Armour
Jump Pack
Death Mask of Sanguinius
Golden Halo
Axe Mortalis
Perdition Pistol

In Game Use:
While using Lord Dante in a regular battle, it is important to utilize his ability to deep strike with zero scatter. This will give you the opportunity to get close to the enemy and engage in close combat fairly easy. Dante also gives Sanguinary Guard units the ability to hold objectives.

He is especially good at close combat. Putting Lord Dante with a close combat unit will only intensify the effectiveness of the unit. Lord Dante also has the perdition pistol, very useful against tanks or heavier units right before a assault.

An army of 1500 or more is almost naked without Lord Dante in it. I have done a few battles without him in the list and the list was missing something. The list was missing that back-breaker unit with it's true commander, Lord Dante.

Note: This is my finished miniature of Dante. Let me know what you think of his paint-job. I took A LOT of time on this miniature. Lord Dante is the pride and joy of my Blood Angels army. I had to make sure he looked the best.

Thanks Guys!

Assault Squad Miniature Showcase

Here is a 5 man assault squad I use regularly. They are not professionally painted. I'm not that talented as a painter. I used a burgundy spray paint as the base-coat for the miniatures. The burgundy helped give the models a darker look.

I used the baal wash over the entire miniature before adding any detail. This helped bring out the detail lines of the miniatures. Then began the detailing of the miniature.

Each miniature typically took me about an hour. I usually would paint them in an assembly line of sorts. start with one color and use that color on each of them, then change colors and start over. Once I was finished with the detail I added badab black wash to the detailed parts of the miniatures (wings, metal, purity seals, joints, etc...).

I hope you guys like my miniatures. Let me know what you think of them. I am always open for advice on how to get better. Jawaballs and his Blood Angels "how to paint" videos helped me improve from where I was.

Thanks Guys!

A New Blood Angels Blog, "The Red Thirst of Baal"

Hello everybody,

I am excited to begin this blog about my Warhammer 40k Blood Angels. I started my Blood Angels army about 3 years ago. I used to be a Imperial Guard player, but the lust of close combat drew me in. Since my decision to change to Blood Angels, I have never looked back.

The Blood Angels I play as are somewhat mechanized and very close combat oriented. I will display my army style with the army lists I will post on this new blog.

In addition to the army lists, I will also do miniature showcases and progress pictures of any future miniatures that I purchase. I am not an expert painter, but I do my best and like my miniatures to look better than just table-top quality.

I hope all of my future followers enjoy reading this blog and give me some good advice and criticism.

Thank you all!
