Warhammer 40k Basing Ideas Exerpiment

Hello there!

Welcome to another installment of Warhammer 40K modeling and painting! I wanted to show you all an easy way to base your models. All you have to do is save your sprues from the GW products you purchase.

You need as much straight sprue with no off-shoots on the sprue piece. You don't need to cut them into small pieces. Just wait till you start super gluing them to the base before you cut. Items needed: super glue, exacto blade, hobby snips, paint, elmers glue, bowl, and some additional basing additave (grass).

Step one is to start super gluing your sprues to your base. Try to use similar sized sprue to make it an even surface for when you go to glue your mini on the base. Give it some time to settle and dry. Once it has been about 5-10 mins after application, cut the sprue as you would like. You will have a better understanding when you see the pictures below.

Then once all of your bases are put together, take them to your spray painting station and apply either a black or brown base coat to them. Dry.... then bring them in to your modeling station. Paint the sprue what ever color you would like them to be. i chose to mix my white and black and make a grey. I wanted urban look to them.

After the paint was applied to the sprue I repainted the side of the base so I could tell each team apart and who goes with who. This is all preference obviously.

Then use some of your elmers glue and apply it in the cracks of the sprue. Do not add too much or you will just end up having a glob of green modeling grass. Use a paint brush to apply the glue between the cracks.

I then put them in a vehicle box top and went to seal them so that the grass would not fall off during transport, use, or battle. We all know how annoying that could get. Below is the finished product up close. This was just an experiment I wanted to try. I like them, but still want to experiment with other things.

Baal Predator - Primus

Hello again!

I wanted to update you on my THIRD Baal Predator. My bits from Hoard O Bits came in so I couldn't resist to finish my Baal Predator. Modeling.... waiting... ok.

Model has been put together and painting commenced. I decided to do a two tone color for the turret. We shall see if I need to do that with the hull of the tank. I think it will be a good unique look. I also decided to do some highlights and lowlights. Let me tell you.... DIFFICULT!

It looks rough right now, but we shall what it looks like after I do the final touches, washes, and matte finish it. This Baal Predator will complete my platoon of Baal Predators! 3 Baal Predators running around on the board cause havoc and killing stuff is just awesome!

Let me know how things look and any tips as usual! Hope you enjoy the post and the picture update!

Blood Angels 5 Man Assault Squad Showcase

Greetings fellow gamers! I wanted to showcase one of my 5 man assault squads I had painted a while back. Though not my best work, I do like the way these miniatures look. They are of a good table top quality, but definitely not golden demon worthy.

If you have any suggestions please let me know! I always love to learn a new technique or two. My hope is to compete in a golden demon or painting competition for Warhammer 40k. I feel I have the concentration and smooth hands necessary to compete.

next post will be of my platoon of Baal Predators. Got the second one finished, I am waiting on some bits for the third one to come in!

Painting Progression

Here is a photo of miniatures of progression from beginning to most recent finished Blood Angels. From the previous post I spoke about how Jawaballs How-To videos helped me improve my technique, well I thought I would show you the improvement.

You can see that the far left miniature is just a bare bones basic coat with no real detail. He is apart of my first blood angels tactical squad I ever painted. The second is with an assault squad I painted immediately after the frist tactical squad. My skills improved a little but not that much.

The real first notice of detail is in the 3rd miniature. I started to watch Jawaballs videos and began using washes "GW washes :(". The 4th miniature was also an improvement as I became more experienced with painting the finer details of space marines (which we all know can be a complete hell).

Lord Dante was the first test of my skills. I was determined to have him be the best looking model on the table. Even against other players. I spent hours working on him and began to understand layering and shading that much more. How to get the exact color you want with you miniature and the proper use of shading.

My Sanguinary guard model was the first mass production use of my Lord Dante techniques. I used the same process that jawaballs teaches with dante for my sanguinary guard. I got faster and better. I still feel Lord Dante is my best painted miniature but this is a time improvement.

Lastly, is the awesome thunder hammer death company blood angel. He was an idea for a small conversion I saw on pintrest (yea was a google search for conversion ideas). I hit the finer details and not having to do layering and was very quick at it by this point. He is by far one of the coolest models I have. When I play people they are complementarity about this one marine, as he is unquie and finely painted.

I hope you see what practice and determination can do for even the most novice of painters. I will post a miniature showcase with my Power Weapon Death Company Squad tomorrow. So stay tuned and you can comment on how things look and possibly give ideas to improve.

This is the video I used to help me paint Lord Commander Dante some years back. Jawaballs is a great instructor in painting. His videos are very informative and thorough. He has a series of video's on his youtube channel (search jawaballs, first choice) to check out for any 40ker wanting to easily improve their painting technique.

I bought one of his painting How-to's to further develop me skills. I have a squad of either Assault Marines or Tactical Marines I am using his techniques on. They are coming together well. I used his methods on my sanguinary guard (a earlier post).

Enjoy his video's and good painting!
